Behaviour consultations

Wheelhouse Vets: Janet Ritchie image

I have always been interested in dog training and dog and cat behaviour, especially since I had my own ‘difficult dog’.

When I started working and realised that I was being asked to euthanase healthy dogs and cats because they were displaying normal behaviour (for them) which did not fit in with their owners’ ideas or lifestyles, I decided to undertake a more specialized training course.

I completed a four year part time course at Southampton University, and have been seeing our own and referred clients for behaviour problems since 1994.

All animals need a complete physical examination first, then a behavioural consultation to assess the problem. Assessment consultations take place during usual consulting hours, and if a longer appointment is required, a follow-on consultation (which takes approximately an hour) is offered. Clients leave with a written programme for the work they need to do with their animal in order to counteract the problem.

Here at the Wheelhouse we are always happy to help you decide on the breed of puppy or kitten which would be most suitable for your circumstances. Please contact us to book an appointment.

Homeopathy

I use homeopathy as a complementary therapy for those clients who would like me to do so, for any problem.

My interest began when I started to treat behaviour problems, and wanted more specific therapies for those animals and as an alternative to the broader based antidepressants and mind altering drugs which are available.

I completed a three year part time course with the Oxford Homeopathy Teaching Group followed by three years of postgraduate meetings.
