Here at the Wheelhouse Veterinary Centre we are supporting The Royal Veterinary College’s Blood Donor Programme. They rely on healthy dogs to donate blood to help save the lives of many of their critically ill patients.
We hold special dog blood donor clinics in Chesham to save people from travelling along the dreaded M25 to Potters Bar. Clinics are held every two to three months and it is a simple stress free process.
Appointments last about 30-40 minutes as on every occasion each dog is given a complete health check. At the first appointment and annually thereafter a full blood panel is performed free of charge. Each time a dog donates the owner receives a large bag of premium dog food and there are treats and presents for regular donors.
Your dog could save another dog’s life! For your dog to donate, it needs to:
- be between 1 and 8 years of age
- weigh more than 25kg
- be generally healthy and fully vaccinated
- have an even temperament
- have not travelled outside the UK.
If you wish to enrol onto our database in support of this scheme or require any further information, please contact Anna Wardle or Doreen Ward on mail@wheelhousevet.co.uk or call 01494 782001.
