Benefits of PEMFT

Benefits of PEMFT include:

  • Analgesia / pain relief
  • Reduction of swelling and oedema (fluid accumulation)
  • Improved vascular supply
  • Aid in healing of soft tissues
  • Aid in fracture healing
  • Assist with neurological conditions

Treatment is:

  • Painless
  • Non-invasive
  • Easily delivered
  • Non-toxic

Precautions:

Treatment cannot be delivered if patients or owners are:

  • Fitted with pacemakers or cardiac implants
  • Pregnant

With owners, we will need you to wait outside of the consultation room while the treatment is performed.

The science behind PEMFT

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy is the application of energy to the tissues which results in a physiological change or stimulation. The desired therapeutic effect will depend on the amount of energy delivered into the tissues.

Bone Healing:

Stimulates bone cell production to improve the structural integrity of bone and cartilage extracellular matrix

Stimulates production of Nitric Oxide which in turn causes vasodilation of the blood vessels, increasing the amount of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues for repair

Pain relief / OA:

Lowers the cellular voltage from –70 to –90 mV. At this lower level, synapses are unable to trigger the chemical transmitters for pain, as well as reducing inflammation which can be associated with pain

Swelling and Oedema:

During trauma, injury or disease large amounts of inflammatory cytokines are released triggering an inflammatory response. PEMFT blocks the production of these inflammatory cytokines and causes constriction of the blood vessels, therefore reducing swelling and oedema

Neurological:

Stimulates motor neurons at a cellular level. Overtime this re-occurrent stimulation can increase the growth of these neurons and aid in re-establishing cellular connections and currents.

How is the treatment applied?

Patients lie on a mat, or the mat can be placed over the area that needs to be treated. Mostly patients will rest on the mat whilst they are having other treatments, such as a massage.

PEMFT at home

To continue your pet's treatment at home we have a unit that we can loan to our clients. We offer full training on the use of the units at home and the protocol for your pets' treatment.
