What Does A Dermatology Consult Include?

Initial Consult-60 minutes:

–Review of pre-appointment questionnaire
–Full clinical veterinary assessment
–In house cytology as appropriate
          -Ear swab
          -Tape strips from affected skin
          -Hair pluck

Stella may also choose to perform additional external tests if she deems these appropriate, which may include blood tests, swabs for culture and sensitivity or fungal cultures.

Based on her findings Stella will then determine the best treatment plan going forward for your pet and will also send you a follow up email to discuss your pet’s treatment plan.

Stella will arrange any follow up consultations if needed, to ensure the best case continuity possible for you and your pet.

What Cases Can We See?

Stella accepts referrals for a wide range of dermatological conditions, including:

  • Pruritus (itchy skin)
  • Recurrent or ongoing ear infections
  • Allergic skin disease
  • Pododermatitis (inflamed and painful paws)
  • Crusty or scabby skin condition
  • Overgrooming or hair loss in cats

This is not an exhaustive list and if you feel your pet may benefit from our dermatology service, please ask your vet to complete our referral form, or call the practice, so that we can advise further.

A price list is available for initial and subsequent consultations. Our prices are usually significantly lower than at specialist referral centres and so can be a good option for clients and pets who cannot proceed with full specialist referral.

If you are a member of the Wheelhouse Healthcare Plan, this cover extends to our dermatology service as well.

How Do I Arrange An Appointment For This Service?

If you are already a Wheelhouse client, please discuss this with your usual vet, who can arrange for you to be referred to the Dermatology clinical service.

If you are not already registered with the Wheelhouse Vets, then please contact your usual vet to arrange a referral to our Dermatology clinical service.

A member of our reception team will then give you a call to book your appointment and also send out some pre-appointment information, including a pre-appointment questionnaire.
